Mrs. Hugh C. Rogers Dies After an Illness of One Week

Mrs. Frances Rogers, wife of Hugh C. Rogers, county Engineer, died at her home, 330 North Seventeenth Street at 2:55 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Death was caused by complications resulting from scarlet fever.
While Mrs. Rogers had been ill for the past week, her condition was not considered critical until Tuesday night. The entire community was shocked at the news of her sudden death yesterday afternoon.
Mrs. Rogers had been a resident of Lexington all her life. She was born and reared here, and was a daughter of the late Frank Bowman and Mrs. Bowman. She was educated in the public schools of this city.
Her father, the late Frank Bowman, with his brother, Edwin Bowman, published the first issue of the Lexington News on April 11, 1889.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by her husband, Hugh C. Rogers; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Rogers, 10 years old; her mother, Mrs. Frank Bowman of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Jamie Rankin of Claremont, California; and Mrs. John Percival of Detroit, Michigan; and one brother, John Bowman of Kansas City.
Mrs. Rogers was known for her friendly disposition, her kindly manner, and her sincerity of character. With her husband, who has served Lafayette County as county engineer for a number of years, she had enjoyed enviable esteem among those with whom she was constantly associated.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Her death was the result of complications following scarlet fever. She had been sick about a week, but her condition was not thought to be serious until late Tuesday.
Mrs. Rogers was born and reared in Lexington. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bowman. Her father died a few years ago. Mrs. Bowman lives in Lexington.
Besides her husband and her mother, Mrs. Rogers is survived by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, 10 years old; a brother, John Bowman, Kansas City; two sisters, Mrs. James A. Rankin, Claremore, California and Mrs. John Percival, Detroit, Mich.
Mrs. Rogers was esteemed by all who knew her and her death came as a distinct shock to the entire community.
The funeral service will be held at 3:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the home. The service will be conducted by the Rev. C. C. Hatcher, pastor of the First Baptist church, assisted by the Rev. W. A. Wimberly, pastor of the Christian Church.
