[Title of bio of Capt. Robert Callender beginning on page 7]...He married first a daughter of Nicholas Scull, Surveyor General of Pennsylvania, from 1748-1759, by whom he had three daughters.
1. Ann, who married Gen. William Irvine, of the Revolution, whose son, Gen. Callender Irvine, was commissary general of the US Army until his death in 1841.
2. Elizabeth, who married to Rev. Dr. Andrews, Provost of the University of Pennsylvania.
3. Isabella, who married William Neill, a merchant of Baltimore.
US and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 records the marriage of Mary Scull born 1731, to Robert Callender born in Ireland in 1726. It gives no date for their marriage, but they probably married about 1756.
In the Will of Nicholas Scull (Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania Wills, 1682-1819) a daughter Mary Biddle is named and also served as Exec. along with son James. Another Mary is named in the Will, this Mary being the daughter of his deceased son Edward. I think its possible Mary (Scull) Callender was the daughter of Edward Scull and granddaughter of Nicholas Scull.
In the book "Memories of Carlisle's old graveyard; containing a list of the inscriptions on all stones in the enclosure in 1898 and descriptions" by Sarah Woods Parkinson, recorded 1898 and published 1930, the grave stone of Mary (Scull) Callender is included on page 65, along with her husband's inscription and her granddaughter Elizabeth Neill who died young. (see inscription below).
