J.O. Terry was born on 23 October 1917 in Kelyts, Texas, to Nathan Juniver "June" Terry and his wife Robbie Crumpler. Youngest of two children, he was named J.O. at birth, but was forced to choose names to go along with the initials when he joined the military. J.O. married Laura Agnes Bihn on 27 January 1940 at the First United Methodist Church in her hometown of Beaumont, Texas. He served as a sergeant in the US Army Air Forces during World War II. J.O. and Agnes lived in Houston, Texas, after the war where they raised three sons. They sold venetian blinds and later antique furniture, restoring and living in the historic James T Dyer home in Missouri City, Texas. J.O. was widowed when his wife died in 2004. Sgt Terry died, 18 October 2006, aged 88, and was interred at Houston National Cemetery.
