According to her son George E. Dienst, she was born at Weslau near Breman on Dec. 7, 1825 (her gravestone says Dec. 11). She came to the U.S. with her family on the ship Phoenix and arrived May 19, 1836 at Castle Garden New York. Her father was Jacob Goetz, mother Elisabeth. Married Johanne Heinrich (John Henry) Dienst in Wayne County, IN on June 2, 1845 (license signed on June 7).

Death of Mother Dienst

Mrs. H. W. Dienst, one of the early settlers of this county (Labette County, KS), who had been ill for several weeks, died at the old homestead, where she settled thirty-four years ago, in Osage Township yesterday afternoon at the advanced age of 75 yrs, 11 months and 4 days, leaving five grown sons and a grown daughter together with a large circle of acquaintances to mourn her loss. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
