Sarah Emily Ivey was born in Glascock County, Georgia, on October 24, 1878, to Robert Harris Ivey and Mary A. Reese Ivey.
She was my paternal grandmother, but died several years before I was born, so I never knew her.
She was the second wife of John Jordan McAfee, with whom she had three children: Ivey William McAfee, born Oct. 25, 1909; Mary Sallie McAfee (later Mrs. J. W. Pennington); and my father, Roy Lamar McAfee, born March 10, 1913.
She died on November 17, 1941, and was buried in the cemetery at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, near Wrightsville, Johnson County, Georgia.
Many thanks to Jenny Haney for taking and posting the photos of the cemetery and my grandmother's stone.
A special thank-you to Loree Beacham for the wonderful photos of my grandmother's marker.
