JAMES ROLAND McCACHERN, JR. of Tallahassee and Alligator Point, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in Tallahassee, FL.

Born May 16, 1944 in Providence, Rhode Island to Evelyn Pauline (Polly) McCachren and James R. McCachren, Sr., he was raised in Gainesville.

While attending Gainesville High School he was a member of the Swim Team and the Basketball Team. He graduated from GHS in 1962, and attended the University of Florida. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Jim graduated with a BSBA degree in Accounting in 1967 and began his professional accounting career in Ft. Lauderdale with the statewide CPA firm of Ring, Mahoney & Amer, later Coopers & Lybrand. In 1972, Jim returned to Gainesville to attend law school and received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida College of Law in 1974. Upon Graduation, Jim began practicing with the firm of Ervin, Varn, Jacobs and Odom in Tallahassee. After leaving the Ervin firm, he continued to practice law in Tallahassee until his death.

He is survived by his father, James R. McCachren, Sr. of Gainesville, three sons; Michael B. McCachren and David J. McCachren, both of Tallahassee, and James R. McCachren III of Jacksonville, and his long time companion, Victoria Covington of Tallahassee, as well as his faithful companion and dog, Lucky.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, February 14, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at Forest Meadows Central Cemetery, 4100 N.W. 39th Avenue, Gainesville, with Pastor Carl Romey officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 13, 2008, 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS DOWNTOWN FUNERAL HOME, 404 NORTH MAIN STREET, GAINESVILLE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lee-McCachren Scholarship Fund, College of Health and Human Performance, P.O. Box 118200, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL 32611-8200.
