GOLDEN, Ill. -- Ernest "Ernie" E. Aden, 77, of Golden, died at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 16, 2008) in an automobile accident near Loraine.
Ernie was born Nov. 22, 1931, in Houston Township, Adams County, to Henry J. and Anna E. Gronewold Aden. He married Esther Joan Ihnen on Feb. 12, 1956, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden.
He attended Locust Grove Grade School and graduated from Golden High School.
A U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War, he also farmed and was the co-owner of Paben-Aden Auction services for 40 years.
He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, where he served on the Church Council. He also was past commander of the Golden American Legion Post No. 801, member of the Adams County Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, Camp Point Lions Club and had served on the Adams County Board for 12 years.
Ernie enjoyed restoring furniture, making clocks, golfing, horses, farming, and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his former wife, Esther Aden of Camp Point; three children, Julie Bunge of Golden, Joan (Ron) Schafer of Normal and Karl (Mary) Aden of Golden; five grandchildren, Heather (Matt) Hawley of Maple Valley, Wash., Ryan (Leslie) Bunge of Farmington, Justin Bunge of Golden, Brianne (Andrew) Dearwester of Camp Point and Dylan Aden of Golden; one great-granddaughter, Karleigh Dearwester of Camp Point; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elmer Aden; and two sisters, Orma Jean Croxton and Marian Skouby.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, with Pastor Jim Trutwin conducting. Interment will be in Golden Memorial Gardens in Golden with military honors by an U.S. Army detail and Golden American Legion Post No. 801. VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Golden.
