Iva Jane Houston was born on Friday, April 9, 1920, in Menlo, Kansas. She was the daughter of Marion Walter and Mary Eliza (Drinnen) Houston. Iva Jane grew up in Menlo. At the age of ten, she moved with her family to the family farm in the Appanoose area of western Franklin County, where she made her home, until her death on Monday, January 30, 2006, at the age of eighty-five years.

She attended rural grade schools and graduated from Appanoose High School with the class of 1938. She also attended Ottawa University.

Iva Jane was a hard worker and a lady with a big heart. She worked on the family farm until 1960 and, from then until her retirement, was a housekeeper and caregiver for elderly ladies. Anyone being cared for by Iva Jane was a fortunate person, due to her genuine love for people. She enjoyed music and loved playing the piano and listening to music.

She was a member of Appanoose Baptist Church.

Iva Jane is survived by her sister, Lois Mae Chester of Fairview, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Alvin Francis "Bud" Houston, Raymond Arthur "Cot" Houston, Carl Wallace Houston, William Marion "Bill" Houston; and sister, Minnie Hazelteen Barber.
SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2006.

IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Miss Houston after 5:00 p.m. Thursday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:00 Friday evening.

INTERMENT: Dean Cemetery, Franklin County, Kansas.
