Death of Mr. J. D. Blankenship
On last Saturday evening, April 28, 1900, at the residence of Mr. Sam Lamb, J. D. Blankenship, an old and very respected citizen of Freestone county after a continued illness of six months, quietly passed into the beyond forever to abide with Him, who suffered the crucifixion, bled and died that we might live.
Mr. Blankenship was born in Alabama in the year 1852, and came to Texas while still an infant. He moved to Cade in 1869 where he lived till four weeks before his death when he was taken to Wortham to the home of his father-in-law, Mr. Sam Lamb. He was married in December 1875 to Miss Bettie Lamb of Cade, who preceded him to the grave some four years. They had only one child, H. A., who is just entering manhood and who must complete life's journey without the comforting love of either father or mother.
Mr. Blankenship was a generous member of the Masonic lodge which order buried him Sunday in the Cade cemetery. He was also a member of the K. of H. He was a communicant of the Missionary Baptist Church and lived accordingly.
He had many friends who are in sympathy with the bereaved.
