Mavis was born July 24, 1920 in Elliot County, Kentucky. She was educated in Green Township Ohio schools. A beautician, she owned and operated several businesses.
Mavis lived in Kentucky, Ohio, Florida, Georgia and Oregon. An avid reader and history enthusiast, she was also a world traveler.
David of John Day; Lorraine of Crawfordville, Fla.; and John of Bend are her children.
Mavis is survived by one brother and two sisters and was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister. Her husband, John J. Traylor died in 1987. (Blue Mountain Eagle newspaper, John Day, Oregon)
