George Miller was born in 1812 in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, on Muddy Creek Mountain. (04 Jun 1812, Greenbrier, West Virginia, USA, Muddy Creek, 37.7302 N, 80.6604 W)His mother was Barbara Arbaugh Miller. He was her youngest child. She did not live long after his birth.His sister Elizabeth is credited with much of the care-taking of her baby brother.His mother was the daughter of Adam and Mary Arbaugh. They also had lived on Muddy Creeck Mountain, but the grandfather, Adam, had passed away some twelve years before George was born.To date no marriage has been found for George Miller. His first wife, from census records and where she signed land transactions involving her husband was Sarah or Sally.Sarah, said to have been the daughter of a William Smith, was born in VIrginia in 1816.She died 31 Aug 1861 in childbirth. (33293772)She was said to have been cousin to Polly and Lydia Smith (daughters of John and Eve Prose Smith) who were married to her husband's nephews, Henry and Benham Nelson respectively.They were children of George Miller's sister, Delphena Miller Nelson, wife of Benjamin Nelson.George is found in the 1833 tax list of Symmes Township, Lawrence County, OH paying tax on one horse and one cow. A Wiiliam Smith is listed in the same record.George and Sarah Smith Miller's marriage is assumed 1830George was a good farmer acquiring much land in Symmes Township leaving sizable amounts of land and cash to his heirs in his will. Rehobeth Cemetery and adjoining Methodist Church were gifted by him from his land. (Purchased 10 Nov 1840, 42 acres, SE Qtr, SE Qtr, Sect 15, Twnshp 5, Range 17, U.S. General Land Office Records, 1796-1907)George voted for Abraham Lincoln in 1864. Four of his sons and two son-in-laws fought in the Civil War.His second wife, Comfort Massie (103812105), was the daughter of Alexander and Martha Phillips Massie. Comfort outlived George and remarried his nephew William (Bill) Cooper with whom she had two more children.There is a marking on George's grave stone, "Meet Me in Heaven"[No document found for middle name Wilson though he did have a grandson George Wilson Miller son of John Bennett Miller]
