Mary Ann Burton of Grand Junction passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007 at Larchwood Inns after a lengthy illness. She was 82.

Mary Ann was born on Feb. 17, 1925 to Harold B. and Maude A. Bullington in El Dorado, Kan. She spent her early childhood with her family in the oil fields of Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. She graduated from high school in Chanute, Kan. and attended Colorado University and Colorado College in Colorado Springs.

She married Hugh Burton on Aug. 6, 1945 (the day of the Bomb in Japan) in Colorado Springs, after he had returned from overseas with World War II. They had met and gone to high school together in Chanute. Together, the two ran Burton's Furniture and Antiques from 1963 to 1980.

Mary Ann was a 58-year resident of Grand Junction. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Joy Circle at the Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mary Ann is survived by her three daughters; Susan (Gary) Timm of Grand Junction, Sally (John) Thompson of Denver, and Shirley (Joe) Burford of Bayard, Neb.; three grandchildren, a step-grandson, a great-grandson, and two step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial service plans are pending. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado or the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Martin Mortuary.
