Born December 27, 1912, in Glencoe, Minnesota, to Frederick and Ermille Tipke. She died on October 2, 2006, at the Willow Grove Assisted Living Home. As an infant she moved with her parents to Odessa, Washington, where she lived until the family moved to Green Bluff, Washington, in 1927. She graduated from Mead High School as valedictorian of her class in 1931. In December, 1932, she married James L. Atkinson of Green Bluff and lived there until after his death in 1981. In 1983 she moved to Spokane. Rosella was a talented writer and contester and won many prizes over the years. She was also an excellent cook and baker and was chosen three times to compete in the ''Pillsbury Bake-Off.'' She was a hard working farm wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed fishing and the many summers spent at Priest Lake. Rosella is survived by her daughter, Jacque Bellefeuille McGowan of Spokane; son, Richard J. (Trudy) Atkinson of Green Bluff; sisters, Violet Davis and Elaine Tipke of Spokane; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, five stepgrandchil-dren and numerous stepgreat-grandchildren;nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James; two brothers George and Ed Tipke; and one sister Bedelia Bertholf. The family wishes to thank the staff at Willow Grove for the loving care they gave to Rosella during her final four months.
