MOUNT HOLLY - Mr. Carl Edward Blanton, 79, of 217 Tomberlin Road, formerly of Shelby, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gaston
Born on Sept. 13, 1924, the Cleveland County native worked for Crockers in Gastonia and was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by this parents, Posie and Tinnie Pearson Blanton; a daughter-in-law, Terry McCoig Blanton; three brothers, Hubert, Fred, and Dennis Blanton; and a great-granson, Dalton Pierce Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Pearson Blanton of the home; a son Kenneth Ray Blanton of Mount Holly; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara B. and Roberts Oates of Mount Holly; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack L. and Kathy Blanton of Mount Holly; a sister, Ruth Barrett of Shelby; six grandchildren; and seven great-granchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Sessom officiating. Burial will follow in Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
