Cathrine Daves Loftin was born in North Carolina circa 1819. (One source cited she was born August 29, 1815). She was married to Solomon Loftin March 17, 1842. To this union four children were born; Barney, William, Sarah and Cornelius. It is not known the demise of Solomon Loftin; however, is suspected that he was killed during the Civil War. Later, Ms. Loftin remarried a man by the name of Jacob Downs in McDonald County, MO.

Then, the family migrated to Missouri; acording to the 1860 census, they were living in the Finley Township of Norma, MO. Then, in the 1870 census, Ms. Loftin was listed as living with one of her sons in Smith County, TX.
