Son of William Milton Belote, Sr., and Adelaide H. Hine Belote, twin brother of James H. Belote, memorial # 352384. He received his A.B. and M.A. from the University of Washington, and his Ph. D. from the University of California. He taught history for many years at the United States Naval Academy. Along with his brother he co-authored three books on military history: Corregidor: The Saga of a Fortress, Typhoon of Steel: 1944 World War II Battle for Okinawa and Titans of
the Seas: The Development and Operations of Japanese and American Carrier Task Forces During World War II. He also contributed to an anthology of naval history titled Sea Power.
