Syrena was the daughter of Jesse & Elizabeth (Blue/Bilyeu) Neal.

Died, at her home two miles northeast of Newtonia, on Friday, February 14th, 1896, Mrs. J. J. Bell, aged 68 years. Deceased was an old citizen of this county, having moved here with her husband in the year 1867. Her maiden name was Syrena Neal. She was twice married. Her first husband was a Mr. Hart. She has two Hart children living, Mrs. Wilson and Thomas Hart, both living in the far west. She was married the second time to James J. Bell, who with four children, still survive her.

The children are William Bell, Mrs. Hattie Hewlett, Frank Bell, and Mrs. J. W. West. She also leaves a number of grandchildren. She was a native of Tennessee but was married to J. J. Bell in Washington county, Arkansas. She had been a member of the Newtonia Baptist church for many years and lived a Christian life. She was a true mother and was honored and loved by all her children.

She had been in feeble health for many years but bore her sufferings patiently. Funeral services were held from the Baptist church on Sunday at 11 A. M. Elder Winter Green, pastor of the church, conducting the funeral services. The remains were interred in the Odd Fellows cemetery near Newtonia. There was a large number of sympathizing friends in attendance at the funeral and many followed the hearse to the cemetery. The bereaved have the sincere sympathy of the whole community. In this some of life's sorest trials; plus loss of a loving wife and devoted mother.
