daughter of Estella Johnson & Oscar Jones, married Burdette Erwin (Bud) Steck

Bernice (Bea) J. Steck went home to her Heavenly Father and family on June 20, 2001, at the age of 89, in Lovell, Wyo.

She was born on June 16, 1912, in Byron to Oscar and Estella Jones. She was the third of nine children. She was raised and attended school in Byron.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and sisters, Ellen, Loa, Ted, Spud, Marion and Estelle; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Lawrence.

Bea married Burdette Erwin (Bud) Steck in Powell and to this union were born three children, Donald, Nora Lee and Sue. As a family they lived in Powell, Garland and Ralston.

In Ralston they built her dream home. She was an active lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. She was also a member of the Ralston Club where she served as president for several years.

Upon Bud's retirement they moved to Palm Desert, Calif., where she became active in golfing. She later moved to Logan, Utah, and worked at Sears for 10 years.

Then she retired and moved to Byron where she built her "beautiful home on the bluff." Wherever Bea settled, she always made her surroundings a virtual Garden of Eden. She had a special talent for making something out of nothing and loved having visitors came and see her creations. She loved to golf, garden, sew, and was extremely artistic and crafty.

Bea loved life and lived it to the fullest. She spent many years cutting hair and giving perms to all her family and friends. She gave hours and hours of service to the residents of the nursing home in Lovell until he arms wouldn't holdup any longer. Thank you, Mother, for loving and serving us for all these years.

She is survived by her three children, Donald of Melbourne, Australia, Nora Lee of Pocatello, Idaho and Sue Abraham of Byron; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Zelda of Cody; and one brother, Calvin, from St. George, Utah.

Services were held Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the Byron LDS Church with burial in the Byron Cemetery.
