The 1930 Gonzales Inquirer published an account of I. W.'s death, "For seven years he held the important position of county auditor, rounding out his eighth year when stricken. He made a highly efficient and faithful officer, giving his best to the County, always filling every duty he undertook with faithfulness and devotion. He was one of the most popular officials the county ever had. He was representative of the highest type of stering citizenship and the regard and esteem in which he was held was countywide. A professing Christian and a member of the Baptist Church, he sought to live in accordance with the high ideals of his profession, that of a Christian gentleman in his every relation of life." I. W. was buried in Denton Creek Cemetery in 1930.
