Marion Louis Gilbert was the only child born to Lewis A. Gilbert and Josiphine (Richardson) Gilbert. She was born April 7,1889 in Bangor, Main. Her parents were fairly well to do with maids doing all the house work. While a young women Marion developed a few talents such as, nitting, croashaeing, embroiderie, and playing the piano. She was also quite an artist when it came to decorating her home and her close. Though she never cared much for cooking. Marion's father was killed in a train accident while she was yet in high school. A few years later she married a young chemist, Kent Richard Fox. 3 children were born to Marion and Kent. Pauline Gilbert Fox, a boy (still born), and Margaret, Ellen Fox. Then the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri. About 1926 Marion developed Multiple Sclerosis which resulted in her being an invillid for the remander of her life. It was durring these years that she put some of her tallents to work by voluneering for the red cross. She would nitt sweaters, write letters to the wounded, and other mirrid tasks. Her youngest daughter Margaret went to work for the Red Cross also, and made it her career. Shortly after the passing away of her husband, Marion, her two daughter's, and her only grand child (Gail Fox Reed) moved from St. Louis to Leawood, Kansas, where she lived out the remander of her days.It was durring her innvilid years that her daughter, Pauline gave up nursing school and devoted her life caring for her mother while she was alive. Pauline never married. Marion died at her home in Leawood on Aug.1,1961. I thought that her middle name was Louise. However I looked my family records and in deed her death cert. states middle name as Louis. Probably named for her father Lewis Gilbert.
