Enlisted on 4/23/1861 at Falmouth, VA., he was mustered into "A" Co. VA 47th Infantry as a Sergeant.
On rolls 8/31/1862.
Mortally wounded in left shoulder 12/13/1862 Fredericksburg, VA.; died in General Hospital #1, Richmond, VA.

The 47th Infantry Regiment was formed in June, 1861, with men recruited in Caroline, Middlesex, Essex, and Stafford counties. During February, 1865, the 47th and 55th Regiments were consolidated.
