daughter of "Bennie" and Tennessee Hunter. This was part of the Choctaw Nation until statehood in 1907 when Blue and Jackson Counties became Bryan County. Listed on 1885 Blue County Census.

Her father was Bina Ahanta,a mixed blood Choctaw, who was born in Mississippi and cam over the Trail of Tears while her mother was a white woman from Tennessee. Her brother Thomas W. Hunter was a teacher, county judge, the first mayor of Boswell an later served 8 terms in the Oklahoma State Legislature.
