Patricia Eileen Beighley, 55, of Rochester, died Sunday (Nov. 23, 2008) at her home, following a year-long battle with cancer.
Patricia Eileen Sturgis was born Sept. 18, 1953, in Rochester. On Feb. 8, 1972, she married Philip L. Beighley in Rochester. Mr. Beighley died March 30, 1995. Mrs. Beighley worked 27 years in imaging research at Mayo Clinic. She enjoyed camping, cooking, fishing, photography, traveling, crossword puzzles, being outdoors, taking walks, and spending time with family and friends.
She was actively involved in the Beighley Cup Cancer Research pool tournament that was started by her husband in 1994. The tournament continued for 13 years and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, which was donated locally to cancer research.
She is survived by two sons, Ben of Rochester and Troy (Cindy Hanson) of Eyota; a daughter, Cyndi (Justin) Theel of Eyota; her parents, Darrell and Geraldine Sturgis of Rochester; four brothers, Ronald (Helen) Sturgis of Rochester, Joe (Cindy) Sturgis of Wanamingo, John (Lisa) Sturgis of Zumbro Falls and Bernie (Jean) Sturgis of Rochester; and seven sisters, Peggy (Jeff) Allen of Rochester, Kathy (Stan) Little of Rapid City, S.D., Marie (Jerry) Schmitt of Wanamingo, Joan (Roger) Marcel of Pine Island, Sue (Dwayne) Moechnig of Wanamingo, Rose (Kurt) Julian and Janet Howard, both of Rochester. Other survivors include six grandchildren, Coryn, Shayln, Tayla, Kami, Grace and Alyson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Brian; a brother, Thomas; and her grandparents.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Pius Catholic Church, and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
