Evie Lee Johnson was the eldest daughter (b. August 6, 1894) in a family of six children born to George L. Downs and Hettie Beatrice Lipham. Evie Lee was named for her maternal grandmother, Sara Vida Lee, who died of "childbirth fever" when Evie Lee's mother was one week old. Evie Lee died suddenly of pneumonia at the age of 44 on March 16, 1938.
In 1916, Evie Lee married William T. Johnson, Jr. the oldest son of William Thomas Johnson and Susan Isabella Colquitt. He was born November 15, 1884 in Bowdon, GA and died of emphysema on February 11, 1948, at the Atlanta home of his daughter Isabelle Johnson Whatley, 1895 Boulevard Drive, S.E.
