Levis was the s/o John and Susannah Carter Courtney. He married Mary Anne Ashbaugh on Oct. 23, 1838 in Perry Co., OH. He was a chair maker. He became ill with Epileptic seizures and doctors advised him to move to a colder climate. He and his wife and children moved to Shakopee Co., Minn. but his seizures got worse until the entire burden of the family fell on Mary Ann. The civil war saw their oldest son and 2 son in laws enlist in the Union Army. After the war, they moved to WA., settling on Pataha Flats near Pomeroy. Levi and Mary Anne were the parents of 6 children All survived to reach maturity except William Laurence who died at age 1 while they were still in OH. A descendant of this man still has a chair he made and the copper boiler they brought from Minn. His home on the Pataha Flats still stands.
