You exhibited a maturity level at 19 not many have in this day and age. Only three months after penning the poem that is so loved and quoted, you did reach out and touch the face of God. Rest in peace dear John.

For one so young, you did a lot. And it was special, and it endures. That is more than can be said of many who lived to a mature age. Rest in peace.

Absolutely one of my favorite poems of all time. If the previous visitor hadn't added it, I would have. RIP, Sir, and thank you for our freedom.

High FlightOh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue, I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untresspassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God. Thank you for your service to our country and leaving us with such a beautiful, touching poem as High Flight. Everytime I read it or hear it I weep. Well done good and faithful servant.

Rest easy, sleep well, my brother. Know the line has held, your job is done. Rest easy, sleep well. Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held. Peace, peace, and farewell....
