Emma Lou Skinaway, 31, McGregor, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 29, 2008.

She was born June 28, 1977, in Aitkin to Clifford and Gloria (Sayers) Skinaway. She grew up and attended school at Fond du Lac Ojibwe School and graduated from McGregor High School. Emma devoted her life to her family and her nieces and nephews. She was very fond of traveling and attending NASCAR races at Daytona Beach, Fla. Emma lived in the Big Sandy Lake area and was employed with the Minisinaakwaang Leadership Academy School in East Lake.

She is survived by her mother, Gloria Skinaway, McGregor; sisters, Sandra Skinaway, Duluth; Lorene Skinaway, Bemidji; Elizabeth Skinaway, Duluth; Jean (Jason) Lawrence, Bemidji; and Julie Skinaway, Duluth; brothers, Clifford Skinaway, Jr., Duluth; Monroe Skinaway, III, Duluth; Ken Skinaway, Cloquet; 10 nephews, seven nieces, and four great- nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who all love and miss her very much. She was preceded in death by her father Clifford Monroe Skinaway, Sr.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thu., Oct. 2, at the East Lake Community Center, McGregor, and will continue until the 11 a.m., Friday, Tribal Rites Ceremony at the Community Center. Melvin Eagle will officiate. Burial will be in the Big Sandy Lake Burial Grounds.
