Anna Abrahams, nee Schmidt, was born on November 20, 1858 in Alexanderwohl, South Russia. Her parents were Jacob and Elizabeth Schmidt. In 1874 she came with her parents to the United States, where they established a new home in Marion County. Upon confession of her faith, she was baptized on June 5, 1876 by Elder Jacob Buller and received as a member of the Alexanderwohl congregation, and she remained a faithful member until her death. On February 25, 1879 she entered into marriage with our father Heinrich Richert, who died on December 25, 1895. This marriage was blessed with eight children, of whom two sons and daughter died when they were young. On June 19, 1901 she entered into marriage again with Father Jacob Abrahams, who died on December 29, 1932. With this marriage she took on the role of mother to eleven children, grandmother to fourteen children, and great-grandmother to one. She was married to her first husband for 16 years and 10 months and to her second husband for 31 years, 6 months, and 10 days. She suffered from gall stones for about six years. Her last sickness, lobar pneumonia, lasted only three days. Some of the things that she said to us indicated that she thought that her end was near. Even in her suffering she was quiet and resigned. In reference to her sickness she would say, "We just have to take what comes." She never complained. After the death of Father Abrahams she felt very lonely. Now she is at home with the Lord in whom she believed and to whom she had given herself completely both in life and in death. She passed away on Wednesday, March 29 at the age of 74 years, 4 months, and 9 days.
The funeral service was on Sunday, April 2 in the Alexanderwohl Church. Pastor C. C. Wedel spoke from Psalm 90:1 and Elder P. H. Unruh spoke from Hebrews 6:19-20.
