Ramona C. Virnig, 90-year old resident of Pierz, Minn., passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at St. John of Nepomuk Church in Lastrup, MN with Father David Maciej officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Parish Cemetery in Lastrup. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz and from 9 to 10 AM on Wednesday also at the funeral chapel. Christian Mothers will say the Rosary at 4:30 PM, followed by parish prayers at 5 PM on Tuesday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel.

Ramona was born on January 16, 1922 in Waite Park, Minnesota to the late Thomas & Mary (Leahy) Majerus . The family moved to a farm near Harding where she grew up with her parents, and her four brothers, Bernard, Willard, Cecil and Edward. Before she married Oliver Virnig in 1947, she worked at Munsingwear in Little Falls and also at Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis. She and Oliver owned a farm north of Pierz. Ramona had many interests and hobbies, and especially enjoyed creating quilts, sewing, playing cards, gardening, baking and getting together with family and friends. She loved both hearing and telling a good joke! She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Ramona is survived by her children: Mary Imgrund of Roseville, MN, Larry Virnig of Plymouth, MN, David Virnig of Pierz, MN, Steven Virnig of St. Louis Park, MN, Lynette Virnig and friend, Tom of Roseville, MN, Denise Virnig of Upsala, MN; and Leon Virnig and wife, Julie of Pierz, MN; brother, Cecil Majerus and wife, Ann of Brainerd, MN. She was proud of her children, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver, in 2001. Honorary Pallbearers will the St. John's Christian Mothers. Active Pallbearers will be Jacki Imgrund, Mark Blonigen, Brian Virnig, Mariah Virnig, Shannon Virnig and Aaron Virnig.
