Mrs. Bates passed away on Saturday, January 18, 1987, at the Scott County Nursing Home in Morton. She was a resident of Morton all her life and a member of the Leesburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Fred Bates Jr., Morton, Billy Ray Bates, Morton, Wilbur Bates, Hernando; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Porter and Mrs. Helen Jean Crotwell, both of Morton; twenty one grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Camille Johnson in 1981.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Eddie Bates, Ricky Bates, Glenn Crotwell, Mark Crotwell, Tim Crotwell, Daniel Porter, Jimmy Porter, Jerry Porter and Otis Porter, Jr.
