WWII Veteran Retired From TVA After 43 Years
James "Jim" Milton DeLay, Sr., 87, of Chattanooga, TN passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2007, in a local health care center.
He was born March 27, 1920, in Rome, Floyd County, GA, to the late Dr. Eli and Inez DeLay. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II. He was retired from Tennessee Valley Authority after 43 years of service.
Mr. DeLay was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Chattanooga Amateur Radio Club.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mildred DeLay; daughter and son-in-law, Lynne DeLay (Samuel) Humes, of Brussels, Belgium; son, James "Jim" Milton DeLay, Jr., of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two grand-sons, Hamilton Humes, of Washington, DC, Hans Humes, of New York; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday October 19, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel with Dr. Lawrence Schenk officiating.
Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Adventa Hospice, 5959 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, TN.
