On a warm Summer afternoon, July 28, George V. Lemmon passed away from this life to join his loved ones with his Heavenly Father. He had led a good, full and very happy life with his family and friends. He was 83 years old and had a sweet passing away of Natural Causes at Silverado Assisted Living Center at Aspen Park.

He was born in Tucson, Arizona, on September 10, 1924, to Ivy Johnson and Earl A. Lemmon. He was the youngest of five brothers and one sister, all deceased. He went to school in Tucson and attended the University of Arizona until he joined the Navy during World War II. He was then assigned to Albuquerque, N.M. to be in the Navy V-12 program and become a Naval Officer. He finished his B.S. and M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of New Mexico. While there he met the love of his life, Colleen Bushman. Toward the end of World War II, they were married in Raleigh, North Carolina on June 16, 1945. After the war they were sealed in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. They are beloved eternal companions and have been married for 63 years. Their marriage was blessed by four outstanding children: Susie who died of Polio at four years old, Jan Davis (Howard), Roger (Joni) and Tom (Michele). He has enjoyed the love and respect of 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was affectionately known to them as Poppi.

George was a very generous person but liked to live a simple, happy life for himself. He loved to be of service to others in small ways without being noticed. He loved to help others laugh and enjoy life with his puns and a joke for every occasion. George was always a great support to his loving wife and family in all their endeavors. George's professional life was one of engineering service. He worked for 25 years at Sandia Corporation in Albuquerque. In 1970 he moved to Salt Lake with Heath Engineering, and was involved in many interesting building projects such as the Church Office Building, the Marriott Center, the Missionary Training Center and numerous other projects. He enjoyed working with people. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in Scouting, as a Branch President, a High Counselor, and a Stake President of the Albuquerque and Albuquerque East Stake. He served as Director of the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center in the California, San Diego Mission with his wife, Colleen. They both enjoyed serving many years together as Ordinance Workers in the Jordan River Temple.

A Viewing with the Family will be held on Friday night from 6-8 at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary at 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Hyland Lake Ward Chapel at 981 East Revere Circle (just north of 5600 South). There will also be a Viewing at the Chapel one hour prior to the Funeral Service.
Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
