She was born on Dec. 31, 1910 in Wellston to Gilbert Herman and Gertrude (Gordel) Ertel. Marie lived in the McLoud area her entire life. She was a homemaker and helped her husband, H.O. Gough, run a dairy in McLoud until 1963. She was active in the McLoud Senior Citizens Center. Marie was a great cook and was best known for her pies, especially her coconut cream pie. She loved to dance and was a member of a square dance team.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, and one son, Billy Joe Smith. Survivors include two sons, Elmer L. Smith of Harrah and Gilbert H. Gough of McLoud; one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and John Drew of Harrah; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2:00 Monday, June 16, 2008, at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah, with the Rev. Lewis Walters officiating. Burial followed at Jent Cemetery, McLoud.
