"Squire" Hendricks, as he was generally known, died at his home in Lenora and was buried there Tuesday. He was one of the oldest settlers at Lenora.

Abraham Hendricks came here from Iowa in 1875. He was elected county surveyor in 1877 and held the office of Justice of the peace for a good many years. His intregrity and sound business sense commended him most favorably to his neighbors and made him a leader in his township. Soon after coming to Lenora he oput in a stock of general merchandise in a log store room built for a man from Cawker City, who expected to come there in the fall of 1874 but after the grasshoppers made their appesarance he failed to come so Mr. Hendricks put in a stock and became a member of the town board. This was the first store started in Lenora, in fact outside of Norton and Leota.

Abraham's three sons John Wesley b. 1852, Silas William b. 1854 and Willis Hall b. 1856 also homesteaded at Lenora in 1875.
