My Uncle Virgil was an amazing man. I never knew anyone who had so many talents! He had his own real estate company, Samsal Realty, which he and my Aunt Marie operated. He also was a contractor and built many of the beautiful homes in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, including entire neighborhoods. Uncle Virgil was also an auctioneer, and as a child, I thought his auctioneering skills sounded like some dramatic opera. I couldn't imagine anyone talking that fast, yet still being understood. It was like music.
He also was very active as a Ham Radio Operator, K9ACQ, and with his passing, is now known as a Silent Key. An interesting note, all call signs beginning with a "K" were assigned during World War II.
Virgil Samsal was a sportsman and a conservationist. In his later years he took to carving beautiful duck decoys, along with pursuing all the other things that interested him with the time he had upon being retired.

Virgil was born on June 18, 1920, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of the late Bert and Emma (Knoblauch) Samsal, and came to Sheboygan County as a young boy. He graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1939. Virgil served in the U.S. Army Air Force with the 452 Bomber Group during World War II from 1941 to 1945.

Virgil is survived by two sons, Jim Samsal of Madison, Wisconsin, and Dick Samsal of Ashippun, Wisconsin, four sisters, Joyce Massey of Basin, Wyoming, Jean Toepel of Kohler, Wisconsin, Viola Brewer of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, and June Martin of Sheboygan, Wisconisn, two sisters-in-law, Vyleta Roehrborn and Rita Roehrborn of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, and a special friend, Wanda DeZwarte of Sheboygan Falls. Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, his parents, Bert and Emma Samsal, and two brothers, John and Wesley Samsal.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2002, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, with the Rev. Donald Hasse officiating. Burial was in the Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.
Rest in sweet, heavenly peace, Uncle Virgil. You are always in my heart and will never be forgotten.
