Born in Titus Co., TX, the son of Joseph Addison and Hattie D'Spain Clark. Enlisted from Grayson County in Co. D, 16th Texas Cavalry Regiment on Feb. 20, 1862 as a private and rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant before the war ended. Following the War, he enrolled at Carlton College in Bonham, TX. Following graduation he married Sarah Lucy (Sallie) McQuigg on Jan 31, 1869 in Bonham. In 1874, he moved to Thorp Spring, where he, his brother Randolph and his father, Joseph Addison Clark founded a scholl called AdRan College. This school would evolve into what is now known as Texas Christian University. Addison Clark was the first president of TCU.
