Ellis -- Jerome Younger, 91, died Feb. 19, 2000, at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus, Hays. He was born March 27, 1908, at Ellis, the son of John and Anna Pfeifer Younger.

An Ellis resident, he was a farmer and stockman. He played for bands in the Ellis area for many years. He belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both at Ellis.

On Sept. 7, 1927, he married Helen Lang at Ellis. She died March 23, 1997.

Survivors include: a son, Jerry, Kansas City, Mo.; four daughters, Maynetta Daily and Betty Herl, both of Ellis, Helen Schoenthaler, Wichita, and Judy Smith, Chapman; two sisters, Regina Zimmerman, Hays, and Theresa Werth, Denver; 23 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Marie Younger.

Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Wasinger Funeral Home, Ellis. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ellis, with Father Kevin Weber presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the church in care of the funeral home.
