Margaret Marie Kiphart was born the daughter of William Harrison Kiphart and Maud Elizabeth Curl on March 12, 1923 at Marcy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was raised in Warren county, lived in Indianola & on an acreage east of town for a decade (1928-1938), where her beloved grandma, Jennie S WOOD Curl passed Sep of '38.

The family moved into town, Indianola, after great grandma Curl's passing, lived on East 5th in a little home on the corner, near the cement plan, and a few blocks from the First Baptist Church where all had attended.

It was there in 1940 she met the stranger she dated for 7 months before eloping.

Mother Margaret, though married, graduated from Indianola High School with a Normal Training teaching certificate May of 1941; she used her married name, Margaret Marie KIPHART Johnson on her diploma.

She had eloped at age 17 to Missouri with Oma Wincey "Jack" Johnson of Lovilia, IA, he was 31, they were married 26 Oct 1940; she was his second wife. His friends Irvin Harrington & wife were the witnesses.

They lived on the south side of Des Moines when I was born in the summer of 1942, & several addresses there before they moved in '43 to Milo, Warren co. to wait out WWII.

In the spring of 1944 mother Margaret lost her only other child, also born at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, her beloved Robert D, (she never told us what the "D" stood for) born 17 Apr, died 19 Apr 1944. She said she was not allowed to see her son; and she was still hospitalized when he was buried with grave side rites at IOOF, Indianola. As a child I remember her telling me she could "hear Robert crying for her."

Loss of her son was her second great loss...her grandma & her infant son...she could not get passed their loss from her life.

After the war ended, in the spring of 1947 she moved into the house she had designed, that Jack built, on the land of the company he ran a garage, with in Polk co., i.e. Munn & Cassady LP Gas Co.
After the garage building burned out Johnson's Auto Service, June of '55, Jack & Margaret bought & ran a resort in Nevis, Minn., 1955-1957. In July of '57 Jack forced a return to Des Moines; they were divorced in 1962.

Mother Margaret spent the following years in the Des Moines area.

She followed me, her dau to Nevada, Story co., in 1991, where I was attending Iowa State University at Ames. She again followed me to Boone in 1994, as I continued with graduate studies with ISU.

She owned her own mobile home, in Green Meadows Mobile Home Park. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer Feb. 12th of 2008, her new doctor put her in a hospice room at the Evangelical Free Church Nursing Home, Friday the 14th, 2008. E Free was where she subsequently passed, at 1:00 am Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the age of 85 years.

Mother Margaret was baptized on Friday, the 7th of February.
She had her only communion the morning of her 85th birthday, 12 March, 2008.
