In researching my ancestry on ancestry.com yesterday I found out that John Morton was my 5th great grandfather. My grandfather was Milroy Morton Phenice. I always wondered why his middle name was Morton. It looks like he was named after John Morton, his 3rd great grandfather, or his 2nd great grandmother Mary Morton. My mother, Ida Izella Phenice was Milroy's daughter. My tree on ancestry is HENRY OAKLEY SPENCER Family Tree

As my 1st cousin 7x removed on my paternal side, you are revered for the advancement of our freedoms we enjoy today. You shall live on in the lives of my children/grandchildren. I LOVE it that your formal education was abt 3 months and that your step father, John Sketchley molded your young mind and heart. You are missed but your legacy lives forever in our hearts and lives.

I grew up in Morton pennsylvania and as a young Boy Scout hiked and camped at Valley Forge National park. There are just so many people across this great country that do not understand the efforts and sacrifices that our ancestors made for our freedoms. this was a brave man who stood up against the opinions of his friends, neighbors and others to gain us our freedom. We need to remember him or we will forget the price that was paid for our freedom.
