General Morgan .. My 5th great grandfather, in his pension declaration recalled what you said to him after you asked his help in choosing the battleground for the battle at Cowpens. Upon your viewing the site he recalled you turning to him and exclaiming, "Captain, here is Morgan's bones or victory!" Thank you for your service and sacrifice. You and the men you led are heroes. May your bodies ever rest in Freedom's soil and your souls in the arms of God.

Hi. Daniel Morgan was in fact born in the rural townland of Moydamlaght close to the town of Maghera in Co. Londonderry Ireland. Some of his descendants still live there and are known to me. Many other Revolutionary war soldiers came from this area for example Col. John Haslet of Delaware from Bovevagh parish near Dungiven about 12 miles north of Maghera. Also Charles Thompson from Maghera was secretary of the Continental Congress during this period.George Washington kept up an active correspondence with many in this part of Ireland especially Presbyterians later referred to as the Ulster Scots many of whom were heavily involved in the fight for American independence. Many young men from this area also fought in the Civil war.
