Sammy Lee Sneed, 51, of Athens, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2002, at his residence.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was an ordained minister and a member of West End Baptist Church. He was also employed by the Athens Utilities Board for 27 years.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Bernice Roderick Sneed of Athens; one daughter, Kimberly Sneed of Athens; one son, Sammy Sneed of Athens; his parents, Preston and Pauline Sneed of Athens; one sister, Mildred Morgan of Athens; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Nancy Sneed of Athens; his mother-in-law, Thelma Roderick of Athens; two brothers-in-law and spouses, Jerry and Jill Roderick and Daryle and Carolyn Roderick, all of Athens; one sister-in-law, Dean Cline of Athens; 14 nieces and nephews, all of Athens; and 20 great-nieces and great-nephews, all of Athens.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at West End Baptist Church with the Rev. Arnold Rogers and the Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Sullins Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Greg Hayes, Jerry Colloms, Tony Brazell, Robert Sneed, David Robinson, Frank Jarvis, Bob Sykes and Denny Charles. Honorary pallbearers will be Dal Jeffers, Russell Coleman, Bob Stephens, Eric Newberry, Wilburn McDonald, Frankie Richesin, Jimmy Haney, Jerry Roderick, Daryle Roderick, Bruce Monroe and John Martin.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
