Funeral services for Mrs Klaus (sic) Boomgaarden, 80, of Ashcreek, were held yesterday morning at the Ebenezer church. Mrs. Boomgarden, who is well known throughout the county, passed away at her home Sunday night of complications of old age. She had been in poor health for several years. Rev. H. Cramer conducted the services and burial was at the Ebenezer cemetery. Pallbearers were Burt, John, Everett, and Claus Boomgarden, Herbert Ennenga and George Ennenga.
Cornelia Dieken was born at Visquard, Eastfriesland, Germany, on June 7, 1858. At the age of three she came to America, living first in Grundy Center, Iowa, and to Kamrar, Iowa, where she lived for several years. There she was married (In 1880) to Klaus Boomgaarden, who died in 1936. For six years prior to coming to Rock county the couple lived in Jackson county, coming here in 1909. They settled on a farm near Steen, living there until 1921, when they moved to Ashcreek.
Surviving are the following children; John, of Woden, Iowa; George of Buffalo Center, Iowa; Mrs Henry Ennenga, Burt and Grace Boomgarden of Ashcreek; Claus of Steen, Everett of Luverne. One son, Kelley Boomgarden, died Sept 29, 1918 while serving his country in the World War and two children died in infancy. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Bertha Hasselbroek of Ashton, Iowa, 23 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
