John Robert Daigre Sr., died at the Riverview Nursing Home in Crookston on Tuesday morning, May 17, 2005, at the age of 78.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 20 at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Halma, with Pastor Gary Halverson officiating. Casket bearers included Donald Holmstrom, Dean Holmstrom, Billy Olson, Nick Kuznia, Elder Westman, Earl Gorsuch, Dewayne Banaszewski and Josh Daigre. Interment was held at Eidsvold Cemetery in Halma. Military honors were accorded by the Halma - Lake Bronson American Legion Post.
John Robert Daigre, Sr., the son of the late William and Rita (Schlater) Daigre, was born on July 17, 1926, in Berkley, Calif. He attended school and grew to manhood in the Bay Area of California and was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. John served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Corson during World War II, and following discharge from service in July of 1947, returned to California.
On Sept. 3, 1955, John married Lola Snow in Oakland, Calif.., and to this union three children, John, Jr., Richard and Sherri, were born. Lola and John divorced in 1962. In the Fall of 1969, he moved to Strandquist and worked at Arctic Enterprises in Karlstad.
On June 5, 1970, John was united in marriage to Marian Olson at Strandquist. They operated a tavern there for five years prior to moving to Halma, where they had since resided. John worked for Langen Farms of Kennedy driving beet truck. He was a lifetime member of the Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion Post. John loved gardening, fishing, and raising rabbits. He had been in failing health for the past three years. For the past 10 months, he resided at the Riverview Nursing Home in Crookston.
John died at the Riverview Nursing Home in Crookston on Tuesday morning, May 17, 2005, at the age of 78.
He is survived by his wife, Marian; two sons, John Jr. (Shirley) of Erskine and Richard (Mary) of Grafton, N.D.; daughter, Sherri (Steve) Olson of Angus; three step-sons, Larry (Suraya) McAnnany of Foley, Dennis McAnnany of Halma, and Harlan Olson of Lake Bronson; eight grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Daigre of California; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
John was preceded in death by his parents; step-daughter, Lucille McAnnany, one great-granddaughter; and two brothers, William, Jr. and Leotius.
