Roman Catholic Cardinal. Pélussin born André-Damien-Ferdinand Jullien received his education at the Seminary of Issy, at the Seminary of Saint-Sulpice of Paris and later at the Pontifical Roman Athenaeum S. Apollinare of Rome. Ordained priest in Lyon on October 1, 1905, he furthered his studies between 1905 and 1908, being appointed to the teaching staff of the Seminary of Lyon, until being assigned as secretary to Msgr. Maury S.S., auditor of the Sacred Roman Rota in 1912. Being eventually appointed to the latter post himself on September 15, 1922, he held this position until being named dean of the Sacred Rota on October 30, 1944. Having joined in the meantime back in 1918, the Society of Saint-Sulpice while in Rome, Pope John XXIII created him cardinal deacon in the consistory of December 15, 1958 with the deaconry of San Giorgio in Velabro. Resigning the office of dean of the Sacred Roman Rota that same week, on April 5, 1962 he was elected bishop of the titular see of Corone, receiving his episcopal consecration on the following April 19 at the Patriarchal Lateran basilica of Rome from Pope John XXIII. The Cardinal died of leukemia in a Roman hospital where he had been interned since December 6, 1963, on January 11 of the following year. His remains lie interred inside the church of San Giorgio in Velabro, his deaconry, in a vault intended to house the remains of its titular cardinals. To this date however, only Cardinal Jullien lies inside the named vault.
