Lorenzo Gonzalez was born in San Juan de Los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico in 1857 the son of Cosme Gonzalez and Margarita Pedrosa. He was the grandson of Jose Maria Gonzalez and Apolonia Avolos, and Jose Pedrosa and Feliana Hernandez. He and his brother Luis in their journeys, happened upon the little village of Tinaja de Vargas, Michoacan, Mexico where Lorenzo met Elena Quintero. The town had established itself on the side of a hill due to the fact that half way up the hill a natural spring of water gushes fresh water which is the life blood of the little village.

The towns people were quite taken by the Gonzalez brothers because they were of Spanish decent and Lorenzo was 6ft 7in tall with blond hair and blue eyes (his brother Luis was 6 ft 5 in tall). Lorenzo married Elena on May 11, 1890 at the District Catholic Church in the near by town of Tanhuato. The children born to this marriage were: Jose Isac Norberto (b 1891), Jose Pablo (b 1893), Maria Ermenegilda (b 1895), Rafaela (b 1896), Nicolas (b 1898), Refugio (b 1900), Ramon (b 1901), Maria de Jesus (1903), and Flaviano (1904). The birth records are recorded in 120 year old books kept by the Church of Tanhuato.

Lorenzo was a very hard working industrious farmer and was given a large tract of land by the government. The family called their acreage "Rancho de Vargas" which is identified in the birth records of the Tanhuato Catholic Church.

Lorenzo died at 95 years of age (1952) in the adobe ranch house that is still standing in the town of Tinaja de Vargas. His grand children hand-carried his body in a wooden coffin 15 miles to be buried in the Tanhuato Catholic Church Cemetery.
