She was one of 3 children born,in England, to William Dance and Frances Battensby. She was born on a large estate with Servants and maids. She did not go to school; she had a tutor at home. later, she was sent to a Young Ladies school where she learned music and sewing. Her father died in 1873.
She taught piano lessons. In 1874, she and her two brothers and mom moved from England to Weber, Utah.
After 2 years, she married John Wintle Bitton. In 1901, they moved to Idaho. She had 11 more children.
