Thomas Bryant Buck, Jr. February 25, 1917- March 25, 2008 COLUMBUS, GA— Thomas Bryant Buck, Jr. died March 25, 2008 at his residence following an illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Columbus, GA with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. There will be a private family burial at Riverdale Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Mr. Buck's home, 2525 Averett Drive, Columbus, GA 31906. Mr. Buck, the son of the late Thomas B. Buck, Sr. and Helen Dodd Buck, was born on February 25, 1917 in Columbus, GA. He was a graduate of Industrial high School in 1934 and attended Georgia Military College. On December 15, 2007 he was presented a Doctor of Humane Letters Degree by Columbus State University. This recognition is the highest award a college or university can bestow. He began working at a young age with his father. At one time he was President of the Buck Bottling Company, Buck Ice and Coal Company, Eelbeck Milling Company, Buck Realty, Inc. and Buck Development Company. Mr. Buck was a long time active member of the First Baptist Church serving as an Usher, Deacon and other areas of leadership. He was honored as an Emeritus member of the Church's Board of Deacons, which he began serving in 1943. Mr. Buck was very active in civic affairs in Columbus, Georgia. He was a past President of Columbus YMCA, Columbus Rotary Club, Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Bottlers Association. He was also a former member of the Board of Directors of AFLAC, the Board of Directors of the old First National Bank and now emeritus Board Member of Wachovia Bank, NA, Columbus, Georgia. He was an original member of the Board of Trustees of Columbus State University Foundation and served until his death. He was named outstanding man of the year by the Columbus Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1949. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. Survivors include his son, Thomas B. Buck, III and his wife, Susan; grandsons, Leslie L. Buck, Jr. and his wife, Reiko, and Randolph B. Buck, Jr.; granddaughters, Shannon Buck Findley and her husband, Tyler, and Rebecca Buck Gross and her husband, Caleb; great grandson, Thomas T. Findley; two sisters, Jean Buck Wilson and Jane Buck; one brother, William C. Buck and his wife, Erie Sue. His wife, Violet Litchfield Buck, predeceased him in 1998 and as did his sons, Leslie L. Buck, Sr. and Randolph B. Buck, Sr. in 1995. He was also predeceased by his brother, Harold D. Buck and sisters, Brownie Buck Elliott and Helen Buck Bergquist.
