Among the citizens of Roscoe, Washington county, who have by their indomitable efforts along right lines attained a gratifying measure of success, stands Fred W Allison, a well known druggist and public-spirited citizen. He is regarded as a good business man, an excellent manager, possessing sound judgment and keen foresight, and has attained a high place in the estimation of his fellow citizens.
Mr Allison was born at Mt. Forrest, Canada, on the 26th og June, 1877, and is a son of John S and Mary (McGraw) Allison. His father, who also was a native of Canada, came to this country, where he followed the vocation of farming, and his death occurred at Crafton, near Pittsburgh, November 19, 1924. He was a republican in his political views and was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Our subject's mother was born in Ireland and died in Crafton, April 6, 1923.
Fred W Allison secured his education in the public schools of Canada and Pittsburgh. He then went to work for Clark & Grazier, druggists, at Scottdale, Pennsylvania, where he remained four years, after which he was a student in the Medico-Chirurgical College in Philadelphia, and on leaving there he was employed as a pharmzcist by various firms. In 1908 Mr Allison came to Rosco and bought the Clyde Hormet drug store, which he has conducted under his own name to the present time. He always maintained his store at the highest standard in every respect, carrying a complete line of pure drugs as well as the usual stock of proprietary medicines and the accessories found in an up-to-date drug store. Courtesy, accomodations and promptness have characterized his service, and his relations with the public have ever been mutually pleasant and agreeable, the volume of his trade steadily increasing through the years. Mr Allison has also been postmaster of Roscoe since 1921. Politically he has been a supporter of the republican party since attaining his majority and he takes a deep interest in public affairs. Fraternally he is a member of the Charleroi Lodge, No 615, Free and Accepted Masons; and Monongahela Chapter, No 249, Royal Arch masons. His religious affiliation is with the Methodist Episcopal church at Roscoe, of which he is a liberal supporter.
On August 14, Mr Allison was married to Miss Laura Wiley, who was born near McKeesport, Pennsylvania, May 12, 1871, a daughter of Todd and Belle (Nichols) Wiley. Her father was born near McKeesport, followed the retail grocery business during his active life, and died at Braddock, Pennsylvania. He was a prohibitionist in his political views and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. His wife was a native of Braddock and died in Detroit, Michigan. Mrs Allison was graduated from the Scottdale high school and the Southwestern Normal School at California, after which she taught in the public schools of Scottdale prior to her marriage. She is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and of Belle Vernon Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs Allison is a friendly and companionable gentleman, well liked by all whith whom he associates, and enjoys to a marked degree the universal condifence and esteem of the entire community. He is a man of positive opinions on the leading questions of the day and has been influential in the advancement of the material, civic and moral welfare of his community.
