Born in Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Pete and Estoy Rogers. She was valedictorian of her class at Weaverville High School and earned her Associate of Arts Magna Cum Laude from Mars Hill College, and a Bachelor of Art, also (M.C.L.) from Maryville College. She taught in Buncombe and Madison Counties, while also achieving a Master of Arts (M.C.L.) at Western Carolina University and was a graduate of EFM Program at the University of South, Sewanee, Tenn.
In 1970, after 17 years of teaching, she regretfully took disability retirement, leaving her beloved students.
For over 50 years, June was a member of Esther Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. At death she was a member of Biltmore No. 38 O.E.S.
While a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, she served on the vestry, as a Sunday school and Bible teacher, Catechist for Pilgrims in Christ, a licensed lay reader, and on the prayer chain and memorial committee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Lester Aiken, and her sister, Lois Rogers Herman.
Survivors include her niece, Carolina Herman; brother-in-law, Carl Herman, of Asheville; brother, Waldron Baird Rogers, and wife, Joyce, of Brevard.
The graveside service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher.
