Hamlin, Texas - Dorothy Boyd Albritton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and teacher, passed away February 29, 2008, at Rosemont Assisted Living in Humble.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008, in the Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, directed by Adams Funeral Home in Hamlin.
A Going Home Celebration Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Donny Harbers officiating.
Dorothy was born in Shiloh, Texas to Annie Wright Boyd and William L. Boyd. She moved with her family to Hamlin when she was sixteen and later attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, and Hardin-Simmions University in Abilene, studying music education. She married Henry Albritton and they built their lives in Hamlin where they were an integral part of their community and church. Dorothy was a skilled and respected piano teacher in Hamlin, preparing students to participate well, not only in recitals, but also in the National Piano Guild Competition. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as organist and pianist for over 50 years. When she retired from that position, she saw a need at the Hamlin's Central Baptist Church and played the piano for their services. Dorothy had a tireless ability to do her part. On Sunday, she was known to rise early, prepare a delicious Sunday dinner for her husband, children, parents, and mother-in-law, teach Sunday School, play the organ for church, do the dishes, rest and return for Sunday evening services. Dorothy played bridge with intelligence, enjoyed traveling the world, always interested in new places and people, and had great fun providing a bountiful table to a growing generation of grandchildren. She is remembered by them arms opened wide, a smile, plenty of kisses and the intentionally lisped: "I Wuv (love) you"-- that assured a mutually affectionate bond. She easily drew people in, making her a favorite among nephews, nieces, grandchildren, son-in-law and the Hospice nurse who loving cared for her in the end of her life. Dorothy will be remembered for her unabashed affection, her strong opinions, her humanness, and her joy in living and her love for Jesus Christ her Savior. She deeply touched our lives, and what she taught us will be carried into the future.

Survivors include three daughters, Cel Cowan and husband Joe, of Hamlin, and their four children, Craig, Celia, Chad, and Christian; Dotty Buie and husband, Ron, of Humble, and their three children, Paul, Marc, and Matt; Jan Matney and husband, Claud, of Bozeman, MT and their three children, Ann, Andrew, and Kate; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Flo Gerald of Sweetwater; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Adams Funeral Home.
